Climate Sensitive Street Project

OBJECTIVE
Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to mitigate the effects of climate change, improve air quality and water management, increase biodiversity, reduce the urban heat island effect and increase sustainability with nature-based practices.

BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project will be realized in Karşıyaka District, Bostanlı Neighbourhood, Cemal Gürsel Street and Cemal Bülbül Street. The increasing population density in cities, the designing of most of the public spaces in cities for cars, and the high level of environmental damage affect our quality of life significantly. With the “Climate Compatible Street Design” project, which we have started working in the city of İzmir, a guide will be created that accepts cities as people-oriented places. Nature-based solution applications within the scope of the project: Permeable surfaces, rain water ditch, parklets, planting trees and plants compatible with the climate, green infrastructure works will be carried out.

Suspended Solid Matter, E-Coli, Intestinal Enterococcus Parameters are checked by taking sea water samples from 11 points, including the surface and the bottom, from the Izmir Bay. In addition, temperature, pH, salinity and dissolved oxygen are measured instantaneously.
Floating wastes are collected manually from the sea with the Mavi Körfez-2 and Mavi Körfez-3 Sea Sweeper Vessels, and by the Land Garbage Collection Team in very shallow areas and on the coasts.

Noise Action Plan

OBJECTIVE
The aim of this study is to determine the problematic areas in the province of Izmir with hot spot analyzes in terms of noise pollution caused by highway, railroad and industrial sources, which are obtained thanks to the Izmir strategic noise maps, and to reveal the necessary actions regarding these areas.

Blue Flag

OBJECTIVE
Increasing the Number of Blue Flag Beaches in İzmir, Raising the Standards for Swimming Water Quality, Environmental Management and Life Safety at İzmir Beaches

BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT
In line with the project goal, a blue flag coordination unit was established in Izmir metropolitan municipality in 2019 for the first time in Turkey.
With the aim of increasing the number of healthy and safe public beaches, lifeguard courses are organized, the deficiencies of the beaches are identified and these deficiencies are supported, and environmental education and awareness-raising activities are carried out throughout the year with the aim of creating sustainable beaches. In addition, sea water samples are taken during the swimming season from the target beaches, which did not have blue flag standards in previous years and are thought to be blue flag in the long run, and water quality is monitored and water quality improvement studies are carried out.
Since the establishment of the unit, the number of beaches awarded with the blue flag has increased by 35%. In 2019, the number of blue flag awarded public beaches increased from 24 to 36; the total number of blue flag awarded beaches increased from 49 to 66. Our studies and activities on the subject continue.

Deodorizing Filter for Manholes

OBJECTIVE
To eliminate the odor problem that arises in some parts of the city, especially during seasonal changes, and to increase the quality of life of the city.

BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT
In areas with odor problems, odor filters are placed inside the sewer covers to provide air purification and deodorization to the manholes. The filter prevents the spread of bad odors by filtering gases such as hydrogen, sulphur, and methane gas accumulated in the duct lines thanks to the active carbon inside. The structure of toxic gases is deteriorated and fresh air is released to the outside. Filters also have the capacity to hold molecules. Objects larger than 20 microns cannot pass through the filter structure, thus preventing the insects living and breeding in the sewer from leaving the sewer lines.

Green City Action Plan

OBJECTIVE
To determine the environmental challenges and to identify the most urgent ones among them, to create a vision and develop projects that will make a greener future possible for İzmir.

BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROJECT
For the first time in Turkey, İzmir has been included in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Green Cities Programme, covering a range of urban environmental issues that form part of the program, including water, biodiversity, air, soil and climate change. It has prepared the Green City Action Plan for solutions. The plan was made with the grant support of 300 thousand Euros provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
In the İzmir Green City Action Plan, actions were determined in order to create a vision and develop projects that will enable a greener future for İzmir by identifying the environmental challenges and identifying the most urgent ones among them. The plan was approved by the Assembly Decision dated 16 December 2020 and entered into force.

Rehabilitation, care and treatment of stray animals in Izmir metropolitan area. In this direction, it is aimed to protect the environment and public health. Our activities will contribute to the creation of a healthier and more livable city.

*As of 2019/2020/2021 and May 2022:
– Rehabilitation and sterilization of 42,497 stray animals were carried out.
-Health checks and examinations of 85,526 stray animals were carried out.
-25,910 stray animals were surgically treated.
Emergency response needs of 38,686 stray animals were met by our teams.
-409.085 kg of dry food was distributed for the feeding of stray animals.
-With the protocol signed with the Izmir Chamber of Veterinarians, the rehabilitation of stray dogs was accelerated.
– It is ensured that the care, treatment and rehabilitation services needed by stray animals are provided on-site in rural areas where service delivery is disrupted by mobile service vehicle.

The project area is surrounded by Ege University main campus and lodging areas in the South, Evka 3 Neighborhood in the East and North, and İzmir-Manisa road in the West. Potential and alternative approaches provided by pedestrian movement in the area, which currently serves as a transfer center, were evaluated. The creation of Thematic Routes was carried out within the scope of “İzmir Historical City Center Tourism, Promotion and Brand Strategy”. In line with this project; Kemeraltı was compared with other old city centers, “”old town city””, the perception of Kemeraltı was defined by survey studies and bilateral interviews, and the story of Kemeraltı was created. The story of Kemeraltı, which is the main lever of the Historic Port City, is defined around three words: Historical Mediterranean Port City. Based on these, a visual identity for Kemeraltı was prepared.

Culture producers from 65 countries met at the summit, which lasted for three days and was held with the theme of “Culture: Shaping the Future”. Within the scope of the summit, which included a total of 864 speakers and participants, 346 of which were online. Our unit, which started to serve with FabrikaLab İzmir activities on January 30, 2018, has aimed to create added value in the public sphere under the name of FikrimİZ, by including the topics of community building, social impact-oriented projects and social entrepreneurship since 19 May 2020. With this goal, our Fikrimiz Unit has interacted with a total of 6672 people since 2018. The Vocational Factory aims to provide vocational training services that will help reduce unemployment throughout the city, develop human resources with the required qualifications in the local labor market, especially in expanding and rising sectors in order to contribute to local economic development and competitiveness, and reduce skill deficiency and qualification mismatch. Vocational courses are given in 63 different branches at 30 different points.
